Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)

Description Image

This is a 3-part course that is open to all new, expired, or current NRP card holders.  All 3 parts must be completed in order.

The course is taught by Sheri Hajjar, RNC

Part 1: Prestudy

The first part of the course is self-study of the textbook for NRP (7th edition).  This textbook is available for purchase when you register for the class or if you have access to a book, you do not need to purchase. Many students who work in labor and delivery, NICU or in neonatology will find that they are already familiar with the NRP guidelines and do not need to spend as much time in the self-study.  If this material is new or unfamiliar, the textbook is the most valuable resource to prepare for the online exam and the classroom portion of the course.

Part 2: Online Exam
The online exam is available for purchase directly through the American Academy of Pediatrics.  When you purchase the exam, also select the skills session that you will attend on the AAP website.  It should match the skills session you selected below.  The test is a 50 question exam with four e-sim cases.  Prior to attending part 3 of the course, a student must successfully complete the entire exam and e-sim cases.  To register for the online exam, go to and select "NRP LMS Login" under the Quick Links.  Students will need to create an account and enroll in the curriculum.  The exam costs $35 and is paid directly to AAP.  Once you have passed the test, you will need to print out the completion certificate and bring it with you to the skills session.  Part 3 must be completed within 90 days of passing the online exam, no exceptions are allowed.

Part 3: Skills Evaluation
The 3rd and final part of the course is the mandatory classroom portion which includes demonstration, hands-on practice, skills evaluation, simulation and debriefing.  On the day of your classroom session, an instructor will demonstrate the skills and be available to coach you as needed.  You will be expected to demonstrate basic neonatal resuscitation skills and participate in a team resuscitation and debriefing.

Successful completion of the online exam and skills demonstration will result in an AAP/AHA NRP certification card valid for 2 years.  eCards are available within 3 days of completing the course.
