Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Course

Description Image

Providence Holy Family Hospital is offering a 2-day training aimed at preparing practitioners to deliver Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills groups in a manner that adheres to the principles of the treatment.

This training is appropriate for psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, marriage and family therapists, licensed mental health counselors, and bachelors prepared practitioners who are running groups.

The two-day training provides an overview of the four  DBT skills modules (mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness) and instructs and models to the staff how to conduct a DBT skills training group in a manner that reflects the theoretical assumptions and core treatment strategies of DBT. The training will be interactive, will involve experiential exercises to promote learning the skills (e.g., mindfulness), and will allow opportunities for practice in teaching the skills.

The presenters (Elizabeth LoTempio, PsyD and Jared Michonski, PhD) each have 10 years of experience in providing DBT and are certified by the DBT-Linehan Board of Certification. They have led DBT skills group in a variety of settings, including psychiatric inpatient hospitals, partial hospitalization programs, and outpatient therapy clinics, combining for 1000s of hours of experience leading groups. Both Drs. LoTempio and Michonski have 5+ years of experience in providing supervision to doctoral students and post-graduate fellows in delivering DBT. Additionally, Dr. LoTempio is employed by a DBT training company (Treatment Implementation Collaborative, LLC), for which she provides training and consultation in DBT; and Dr. Michonski volunteers for the DBT-Linehan Board of Certification, for which he assists in coding DBT case conceptualizations for adherence.
