Mental Health First Aid

Description Image

Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. The training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial help and support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem or experiencing a crisis.

What is covered:

  • Common signs and symptoms of mental illness
  • Common signs and symptoms of substance use
  • How to interact with a person in crisis
  • How to connect the person with help
  • NEW: Expanded content on trauma, addiction and self-care

Currently, all courses are held virtually. Participants will complete a 2-hour, self-paced course, and then participate in a live, Instructor-led training using Zoom. You must attend the full course to receive a certificate of completion. The self-paced course will be sent to participants roughly two weeks prior to the virtual course. The pre-course training must be completed at least 24 hours before your live, virtual course. If you do not complete the pre-course training, you will be unable to attend the virtual course

All transfer and cancelation requests must be made at least 48 hours in advance of the virtual course. A refund cannot be issued if the online pre-course training has been opened.

We require five participants to hold a class. If we do not have five people enrolled two weeks prior to class, the course will be canceled.

The cost of this course is subsidized by a generous donation from the Providence Health Care Foundation. Scholarships are available upon request.
